For human resource management of organization performance is always a crucial question – how to find the best methods of raising employees' smartness, satisfaction and productivity? The goals behind these two strategies are visible yet different direction. The job rotation and the job enlargement take place. In the following blog, I discuss the job rotation and job enlargement that are the concept of a career development strategy, which highlights for us their difference, benefit, and best practice.

Understanding Job Rotation

Job changing of the workers from one workstation to another in a company means that they can work in various posts of the company. This strategy goals to offer employees with a chance to work across the various departments, functions, or projects and hence, the skills, knowledge, and perspectives that are related to the employer will be broadened. (Ghosh et al., 2019) Such a way of job rotation usually follows a specific schedule which is formed from a rotating scheme that give workers an opportunity of becoming professionals in various domains across the time.

Benefits of Job Rotation

Skill Development: Job rotation then gives the employee an opportunity to build a broader skill set as to it shift them from a variety of jobs which have different forms of tasks, responsibilities and work environments. Such diverse assignments sharpen their ability to adapt, come up with solutions, and grow personal competence, and this leads to them being more flexible and useful to the organization.

Career Growth Opportunities: They begin to perceive the daily operations from different angles and discover job-related options in the company. Job rotation may help employees set their goals and discover what they are the best at, as well as preferably it will result in specialized training that will subsequently contribute to their professional development and promotion.

Employee Engagement and Retention: A periodic switch of position is used to increase the engagement and the joy at work because of the variety of interesting tasks and opportunities to develop. The crew might be motivated to stay with the company and dedicate to the organization’s goals over the years if they have the permission to try out various positions and develop new skills (Vaiman et al., 2021).

Understanding Job Enlargement

Job enlargement is an easy example of job broadening i.e., adding more responsibilities or tasks to existing occupational description. The job enlargement was first explained by Hackman and Oldham (1976). Contrary to job rotation which allows workers to explore different roles, job enlargement identifies ways of adding more responsibilities, making the current one more engaging and broader for the employee.

 Benefits of Job Enlargement

Enhanced Job Satisfaction: Enlargement of jobs is regarded as one of the most effective causes for increased job satisfaction through the freedom that it provides in the arena of autonomy, freedom and skill utilization. Employee engagement is one of the factors linked to the quality of work in an organization. Employees who engage in a range of tasks and responsibilities tend to view their job as a fulfilling and meaningful burden leading to increased job satisfaction and motivation.

Skill Utilization and Development: What that role allows them to do is not only to leverage a broader set of skills and competencies, but it can also help them self-improve and develop. Job enlargement broadens the range of work an employee does beyond what is specified and may include learning new tasks, leading to increased potential for skill acquisition and growth.

Improved Efficiency and Productivity: Job enlargement will make roles more interesting and advanced and will get rid of actions that break monotony and boredom. The staff members who are involved in a pool of different tasks have the chance of being keen, motivated and dedicated for delivering exceptional work, as a result the company have competitive edge.

Conclusion

This wide exposure makes possible for both the job rotation and job enlargement to enhance the employee development, engagement and meet job satisfaction. Though, the main idea of job rotation is assuming that employees will be exposed to the other roles and functions, the job enlargement is focused on enriching the present positions of employees by adding more responsibilities. Through these techniques, the organizations can develop a culture of ongoing learning, personal development, and innovation. As a result, they are likely to be competitive landmarks with a future-oriented growth approach in a dynamic and competitive business world.
